We are happy to invite any prospective family to the school to visit the premises, meet the Principal and see how we ‘live’ our ethos and embrace our school rules:
We also have a group of current parents that are happy to meet any prospective or enquiring families to discuss any further questions or queries.
Any applications or enquiries received outside of term time will be addressed. All messages are checked periodically during holiday times, so please do not hesitate to leave us a message.
We would encourage all prospective families to complete an Expression Of Interest form and take a look at our Admissions Policy and Code of Behaviour.
The start of school is recognised as a major transition in the life of a child and here in John Scottus National School we want to do everything we can to make that transition smooth and meaningful.
Each year we invite incoming Junior Infants classes to an induction afternoon. It is important for children to become comfortable in their new surroundings and to have an opportunity to meet their teacher. These two simple steps can assist children in easing into their new school environment.
A great way to get to know a new environment is to take a peek inside and see what a typical day is like. You may like to show this video to your child before they start school.

Please feel free to download and read our Junior Infants Induction Booklet.
Each year we have a Parent Information Evening for parents who have enrolled their children for the following September, as well as a Junior Infant induction afternoon typically each May.
John Scottus National School endeavours to be as inclusive as possible and welcomes all children subject to the admissions policy. We currently have 3.2 Learning Support Teachers (Sept 2019). You can find below our policy on Special Educational Needs (SEN) which sets out our approach to encourage every child with SEN to grow in self-confidence and achieve their full potential socially and academically. Learning Support at John Scottus National School is a collaborative process involving the child, the class teacher, parents and the Learning Support Team.
This school received a grant in 2021 to implement initiatives aimed at addressing the digital divide and support our learners at risk of educational disadvantage as a consequence, as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), a project under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU.
This funding was used to: Upgrade the school’s internal network and Wi-Fi infrastructure to ensure that all learning spaces can support multiple devices and digital learning activities. Introduce classroom tablets to facilitate varied teaching opportunities and differentiated instruction where needed.
