Afterschool FAQ’s
What activities are available in Afterschool?
This varies from year to year and also depends on age. In 2018/19 the following were available: homework, freeplay, ballet, karate, art, lego, soccer, Gaelic football , Italian, French and drama.
Musical Instrument lessons also run at the same time as Afterschool.
We offer piano, ukulele and guitar. There may be a waiting list for these classes.
All classes are dependent on sufficient demand.
What are the opening times of the Afterschool?
There are two sessions; the first is from 14:00 to 15:00 (Junior infants only) and the second from 15:15 to 17:15.
Will Afterschool operate during school holidays?
Not at present but there are often camps put on during mid-term breaks, Easter and Summer holidays.
Will Afteschool run on half days?
It will not run on half days (12:00 close)
Are there part time places available?
Part time places are available. You will be charged a monthly rate based on the number of days a week your child is booked in for.
When and how do I pay the fees?
When you are offered a place, a deposit of €250 will be due on the 31st of July. Thereafter, you must pre-pay your fees on or before the first day of the month starting in September. This is done through our website using the Easy Payments Plus system. We do not accept cash.
All musical instrument and extra lessons must be paid for, in full, before the first lesson of each term.
Can I choose not to use the service for a couple of months and keep my place?
All places are based on making a 10-month commitment (September to June). If you want to keep your place you must pay your monthly fee by the first day of the month, using the recurring payment service on our school website.
What is the enrolment policy for 2019/20?
Places are allocated using the following policy.
Early: 14:00 – 15:00 (JI only)
There are 18 places in this session. Parents who apply for both the early and the afternoon session will be given first preference.
Afternoon 15:15-17:15
There will be a certain amount of places allocated to the incoming junior infants and then to children who have siblings. Any remaining places will be filled on a first come first serve basis.
You may book in for a one hour or two hour slot.
How much notice do I have to give if I want to stop using the service?
You must give us one month’s notice, in writing, if you want to stop using the service.
What do I do to secure my place if I am offered a place in the Afterschool?
You must pay the €250 deposit per family, on or before the 31st of July to secure your place.
Will siblings be given places together?
Yes, siblings will be allocated places together.
Will siblings be given a discount?
Where two or more siblings using the service at the same time a 30% discount will be given on overall monthly Afterschool fees.
Does the service offer drop in places?
Drop in places are available but are limited.
Drop in fees are charged at €20 per day.
You must contact the Afterschool manager (afterschool@johnscottus.ie) directly. Bookings cannot be made through the office or class teacher.
Will my children get a meal at Afterschool?
There will be a substantial snack provided to children.
What is your fees policy?
The fees are calculated on a yearly basis and divided into 10 equal payments. This fee is payable in advance, each month, September through June. We ask all families to sign up for the recurring payment option on the easypayment page on the school website. There will be no reduction in the fees if you choose not to avail of the service for a number of days during the month. The following prices do not include musical instrument lessons. Some Afterschool clubs are included in the fee below but most will incur a supplement per term.
