At John Scottus National School we pride ourselves on delivering a high standard of education
Small class sizes
Classes typically have 18 pupils or fewer, allowing for a better teacher child relationship.
School opens at 8am and finishes at 3pm (2pm for Junior Infants)
Teachers remain with their class for 2-3 years.
School commences with ethos-based assembly and focuses on a different theme each week, such as gratitude, well-being and kindness. Students are encouraged to participate in assembly and address the school community, developing their confidence in public speaking.
‘The Pause’ is practiced at the end of each activity.
Philosophy lessons enable our students to explore different values and virtues. They play games, listen to stories, and learn to develop their critical thinking and logic.
Sanskrit is included in the curriculum as a tool to develop the mind. An understanding of its grammar and pronunciation provides a model for understanding modern day languages. View Sanskrit video here.
Home-cooked, nutritious hot vegetarian lunch is provided and enjoyed with the teacher. Snacks are provided at break times and during Afterschool.
Pupils participate in three Physical Education lessons each week, incorporating athletics, swimming lessons from Junior Infants, dance, games, gymnastics, karate and outdoor adventure activities.
On-site Afterschool service is available until 5.15pm offering a range of stimulating activities including unstructured play, sports and art.
