Assembly
The daily morning assembly represents our value of ‘unity’ – many becoming one. It provides everyone the opportunity to start from the same point at the beginning of each day.
Daily Learning
The timetable for each class varies. Usually the morning is devoted to language, literacy and numeracy, and the afternoon is for history, geography, science, music, art, PE, SPHE (social, personal and health education) and drama.
Lunch and Breaks
Lunchtime at John Scottus National School is considered another opportunity to learn. Children and teachers enjoy a delicious and nutritious hot vegetarian meal prepared in-house by our talented catering team. Children serve each other, developing social mealtime norms and interact with their teachers in a different setting than the classroom.
We consider good nutrition and a positive attitude towards food to be essential to the children’s health and well-being. Menus are developed to be nutritionally balanced and children are encouraged to try new things and enjoy good food in all its variety. Children also enjoy their own seasonal produce that they have planted in the vegetable beds in the Secret Garden.
Typically children enjoy a short break and snack with fruit, homemade bread and milk or water in the morning and have a longer lunch.
John Scottus is a nut free school!
